From ancient rainforest and dramatic waterfalls to idyllic beaches and island adventures, discover the real-life destination behind the hit reality series
September, London, United Kingdom – One of Malaysia’s most spectacular island destinations is back on British television screens this autumn, as the breathtaking landscapes of Langkawi provide the backdrop for the third series of Channel 4’s hit reality adventure show Tempting Fortune.
Hosted by comedian Rob Beckett, the new series sees 12 contestants embark on an epic 13-day journey through the tropical landscapes of Langkawi, battling the elements while attempting to resist a series of increasingly tempting luxuries that could eat into their shared prize fund.
But beyond the challenges and temptations, the series puts the spotlight on a destination that offers plenty of reasons for travellers to give in to temptation.
During filming, Beckett shared glimpses of his time in Langkawi on his Parenting Hell podcast, from boat journeys to remote filming locations and encounters with the island’s monkeys to sampling Malaysian food and even finding time for a round of golf.
Located off the north-west coast of Peninsular Malaysia, Langkawi is an archipelago of 99 islands renowned for its pristine beaches, ancient rainforest, dramatic limestone landscapes and rich biodiversity. Recognised as a UNESCO Global Geopark, the island offers an extraordinary combination of nature, adventure, culture and laid-back tropical living.
For viewers inspired by the scenery featured in Tempting Fortune, Langkawi offers countless opportunities to experience its landscapes without having to compete for a prize fund.
EXPLORE ONE OF THE WORLD’S OLDEST RAINFORESTS
Langkawi's rainforests are estimated to date back hundreds of millions of years, creating a remarkable habitat for wildlife including dusky leaf monkeys, long-tailed macaques, flying lemurs and an impressive variety of birdlife.
Travellers can explore the rainforest on guided nature walks, take to the treetops or simply experience the sights and sounds of the jungle from one of the island’s nature-focused resorts.
DISCOVER LANGKAWI FROM ABOVE

One of the island’s most recognisable experiences is the Langkawi SkyCab, which carries visitors above the rainforest to the summit of Gunung Machinchang.
At the top, the curved Langkawi Sky Bridge sits high above the forest canopy, offering panoramic views across the surrounding mountains, rainforest and islands of the Andaman Sea.
CHASE WATERFALLS
Hidden amongst Langkawi’s lush interior are a number of waterfalls that reveal another side to the island beyond its famous coastline.
Among the best known is Telaga Tujuh, or Seven Wells Waterfall, named after the series of natural pools formed in the rock. Temurun Waterfall, meanwhile, tumbles through the rainforest of the Machinchang mountain range and is particularly impressive during and following the wetter months.
EXPLORE THE MANGROVES

On Langkawi's north-east coast, Kilim Karst Geoforest Park brings together mangrove forests, limestone cliffs, caves and waterways within the wider UNESCO Global Geopark.
Boat and kayak trips allow visitors to explore its winding channels and extraordinary geology while looking out for wildlife including macaques, kingfishers, monitor lizards and eagles.
ESCAPE TO THE BEACH

After an adventure in the jungle, Langkawi's beaches provide a rather more relaxing temptation.
Pantai Cenang is the island's liveliest stretch, with restaurants, cafés, watersports and sunset views, while beaches including Tanjung Rhu offer a quieter experience framed by limestone islands and clear Andaman Sea waters.
GO ISLAND HOPPING

Langkawi is much more than its main island. Boat trips reveal some of the surrounding archipelago, including Pulau Dayang Bunting, home to the famous freshwater Lake of the Pregnant Maiden, alongside secluded beaches, forest-covered islands and sheltered bays.
TASTE LANGKAWI

The island also provides an introduction to the flavours of northern Malaysia, from freshly caught seafood and traditional Malay dishes to bustling night markets and relaxed beachfront dining.
Langkawi is also a duty-free island, adding shopping – alongside its hotels, spas and restaurants – to the list of temptations visitors don't necessarily need to resist.
Director, Tourism Malaysia London, Sulaiman Suip said: “We are delighted to see the spectacular landscapes of Langkawi reaching UK audiences through Tempting Fortune. The programme showcases the island’s incredible natural beauty, but there is so much more for visitors to discover.
“From exploring ancient rainforest and mangrove forests to taking in the views from the Sky Bridge, discovering beautiful beaches and experiencing Malaysian food and hospitality, Langkawi is a destination where adventure and relaxation sit side by side. We hope viewers will be inspired to experience it for themselves.”
Tempting Fortune Series 3, hosted by Rob Beckett, launches on Channel 4 on 22 September 2026.
